An Alibaba company visit is arranged through verified partner channels and typically includes a campus tour and a business briefing. Submit your group details three to four weeks ahead, with passport information for every attendee. Alibaba does not sell tickets to individuals, and requests without a sponsoring organization are usually declined.
About Alibaba: E-Commerce, Cloud, and Logistics in One Group
Alibaba Group started in 1999 in a Hangzhou apartment and now runs several of the platforms that shaped Chinese digital commerce. For a visiting group, it helps to know which parts of that ecosystem sit under the same roof:
- Domestic commerce — Taobao and Tmall, plus the marketing and merchant tools behind them.
- International commerce — Alibaba.com, AliExpress, Lazada and Trendyol, which is where most sourcing teams focus their questions.
- Cloud — Alibaba Cloud, the group's AI and infrastructure arm and the reason many technology delegations come.
- Logistics — Cainiao, the network that handles fulfillment across the retail businesses.
- Local services and retail tech — food delivery, mapping, and the Freshippo grocery format you can walk into the same afternoon.
One point worth getting right before your briefing: Ant Group, which operates Alipay, is a separate affiliate rather than part of Alibaba Group. Groups often arrive assuming payments will be on the agenda, then find it isn't.
The headquarters itself is the Xixi Campus in Yuhang District, locally nicknamed Taobao City. It runs to roughly 260,000 square meters, with the main building designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, and it functions as a small town: canteens, gym, auditorium, cafes. Entry runs on facial recognition and everything inside is cashless, which is the first thing most visitors comment on.
What an Alibaba Company Visit Includes
Content varies by group and by what the host approves, but a standard visit is built from four pieces:
- Campus walkthrough. The public-facing areas of Xixi Campus, usually starting at the visitor center. Architecture, working environment and campus technology get explained as you go.
- Company briefing. A presentation on the group's history, structure and business model, generally delivered by an Alibaba staff member or an approved corporate trainer.
- Q&A session. The part that decides whether the visit was worth the trip. Send your questions ahead so they reach the right person.
- Ecosystem stop. Many programs pair the campus with a Freshippo store or another live retail-technology site nearby. Seeing the model run beats hearing it described.
What you should not expect: access to working office floors, data centers, or anything commercially sensitive. Photography rules tighten as you move inward. Your coordinator will tell you where cameras are fine.
Who Qualifies for a Visit
Alibaba's campus is a workplace, not an attraction. Access goes to organized groups with a sponsoring institution behind them:
- Corporate delegations and executive teams
- Business schools, MBA and EMBA cohorts
- Universities and research groups
- Industry associations and government trade missions
- Procurement, e-commerce and supply chain teams
Individual travelers generally can't arrange a corporate briefing on their own. Two options remain: join a scheduled group, or book one of the short public campus tours sold in Hangzhou. Those cover the architecture and the company story, not a business session.
Booking Process and Lead Time
The sequence is the same for every group. Where teams lose time is step two.
- Send your group profile. Organization name, a short introduction, headcount, and what your team wants out of the session.
- Provide attendee details. Full names and passport information for every delegate. Alibaba's security screening runs on this list, and a single missing passport can hold up the whole approval.
- Wait for approval. The request goes into the host's schedule alongside everyone else's. Dates are confirmed, not requested.
- Lock the format. Half day or full day, briefing topics, interpretation language, and any pairing with a Freshippo or Hangzhou site visit.
- Receive the final schedule. Arrival time, entrance gate, on-site rules, and the name of your coordinator for the day.
Plan on three to four weeks minimum for a single visit. If the Alibaba stop is one piece of a multi-city program, work back from eight to twelve weeks. That is the lead time that also gets you a decent choice of hosts everywhere else. Two windows fill early: Golden Week in early October, and the weeks around Singles' Day in November, when the commerce teams are unavailable for anything.

Half-day versions drop the ecosystem stop and the debrief. We usually advise against that. The debrief is where a visit turns into something you can act on, and it costs 45 minutes.
