The Two Dates That Will Ruin Your Programme
Chinese New Year and Golden Week (October 1–7) are the only two periods that make China genuinely unsuitable for study tours and business delegations. All other holidays cause manageable disruption that can be planned around. These two, however, mean factory closures, hotel prices 3–5x higher than normal and transport that is effectively unusable. Window 1: March (Full Month)
Our single most recommended window. Factories fully back after CNY restart, universities mid-semester, weather pleasant across all cities, hotel availability good, no major holidays. The first-choice window for most programme types. Book 5–6 months in advance.
Window 2: May 6–31
Excellent from May 6 after the Labour Day holiday. Ideal weather, Canton Fair finished, all operations running smoothly. Universities in their final productive weeks — still good for campus exchanges in the first half of May. Strong second choice for all programme types.
Window 3: September (Full Month)
Arguably the best month for overall experience. Perfect weather across all three cities, new university semester energy for campus exchanges, full factory operations and no holidays until Golden Week on October 1. Book early — September is the most popular month among experienced organisers.
Window 4: November (Full Month)
The most operationally straightforward month of the year — no public holidays, no major trade shows, no weather extremes and full factory and university access throughout. Excellent hotel value. Particularly strong for Beijing programmes. Our quieter but consistently high-performing recommendation.
