A real GAC company visit: hosting a Saudi training delegation
The group arrived with a clear brief. As an institution that builds technical skills for Saudi Arabia's energy and utilities workforce, they wanted to see two things side by side. One was how a high-volume plant actually runs. The other was how the company trains the people who run it.
CST built the program around that brief. We secured the plant and academy slots and scheduled the visit the day after a stop at a robotics company. Arrival and the smart factory dashboard
A GAC vehicle led our group through the security gate, where guards checked the visitor list. Inside, the welcome wall doubles as a live production dashboard. It tracks output by line, line pace and the operating rate of the welding, paint and assembly shops. It also counts the days the plant has run without a safety incident.
Workshop one: the smart digital assembly workshop
There was no sightseeing cart. The group walked the pedestrian aisles at line level while a GAC engineer explained each station and took questions along the way.
According to the plant briefing, the general assembly workshop covers about 50,000 square meters. It runs more than 300 industrial robots and completes a vehicle every 67 seconds. Production is order-driven: dealers upload customer orders, and the schedule shifts toward the models selling fastest. Any worker can stop the line when something looks wrong, so problems get fixed on the spot.
The glass station drew the biggest reaction. Two robot arms fit the front and rear windshields at the same time, applying glue and setting the glass in roughly 30 seconds. A 3D laser vision system guides the work, with glue positioning accuracy of plus or minus 0.12 mm.
Other stations mix people and machines. A robot mounts the wheels while a worker assists with the bolts, and an electric bolting unit tightens five bolts at once. Shock absorber bolts and interior wiring are still done by hand. A parts kitting system delivers the right components to each car, which cuts walking time between lines.
The floor itself left an impression too. We saw no oil stains anywhere, and every worker wore the same off-white uniform.
Workshop two: the welding shop
Before entering the welding shop, everyone put on caps and safety glasses. Sparks flew four to five meters from the underbody line as dozens of robot arms worked at once.
Standing in the viewing area felt like standing on a busy street, except that the noise came from machines rather than people. The few staff on the floor mainly handled the hand-offs between stations. The thick front crash beams moving down the line started a conversation about vehicle safety that carried on into the showroom.

Inside the GAC Craftsman Academy
For a training institution, this was the core of the day. The GAC Craftsman Academy is the group's platform for developing highly skilled workers, and it is certified as a national-level training base for high-skilled talent. It trains group employees and external trainees, both online and in person.
The delegation spent about 50 minutes in the academy's skills training ground, which covers roughly 1,000 square meters. It is laid out in six practical zones. They cover safety awareness, equipment maintenance, body work, paint quality inspection, final assembly and low-cost automation projects.
